Songkran Festival

In Thailand, Thai people always celebrate the Songkran Festival with their family. It is the Thai New Year. It starts on the 13th April and finished on the 15th. There are many activities during the Songkran Festival. In the morning, people make merit by offering alms to monks at the temple and the monks offer some word of wisdom. Then the youngsters will show the respect and gratefulness to adults or elders by pouring scented water onto their hand and the elders in turn wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity. In the evening, people joyfully splash water on each other by using buckets of water and water pistols. People build sand pagodas at the temple : bringing sand to the temple is considered a merit as the sand can be used for construction or restoration by the temple. People usually wear Thai traditional cloth. In addition, they usually eat Pad Thai, Som Tam and Tom Yum Goong. On Songkran Day, not only people spend tome with family but they also travel to any place in Thailand.
